Tay Do battalion was established on June 24, 1964 in Phuong Binh commune, Phung Hiep district. After its founding, the Battalion organized many scale battles across Can Tho province, causing the enemy to consume heavy energy. In particular, the battle in Ong Cuu canal in 1968 must be included in Thanh Hue hamlet, Thuong Thanh commune (now Thanh Hoa area, Thuong Thanh ward, Cai Rang district). Tay Do Battalion destroyed 2nd Battalion and struck heavy damage 2 Other Battalions of 33rd Regiment, 21 puppet Division. We have removed from the battle round of nearly 500 names, shot down a helicopter, collected 22 guns of all kinds and many armed and military equipment of the enemy. The victory at Ong Cuu canal shows the maturity of Tay Do Battalion on the level of combat, from resilient defenses to the emergence of destroying the enemy. The victory destroyed the enemy's life force, contributing to the South's army and people to defeat the US plan "Destroy and pacify" - puppet.
